Cocktails and graphic literature

The Graphic Novel Book Club is holding its monthly meeting at 1022 South this evening. DMZ, Volume 1 will be discussed. Read on.

Tonight is supposed to be Rebel Monday at the New Frontier, but I'm really confused right now. I just saw a tweet from O'Malley's saying it's going to be held here. Hmmm. If anyone knows what that's all about, let me know.

It is Sunday

There's going to be an experimental film showing tonight at the New Frontier Lounge instead of the usual Sunday night indy rock show. Joe La Sac and Kris Crews will be showing some sort of experimental video project. I'm not sure what that means either, but it should be interesting. And it's free. There will be great food and drink specials tonight as well. The show starts around 7pm. I'll be there. In the kitchen.

E-cycle

I just found out the City of Tacoma now offers free E-cyling. Now I wont have to leave my old computer on the side of the freeway! Find out more.

Day off, or off day

I've been trying to come up with something to write an article about since Brittany and I got back from our trip to Kauai Friday morning, but so far I haven't been able to. If anything interesting is going on in Tacoma the next few days, someone please let me know.

Here's Brittany in front of a cave near the end of the highway by Ke'e Beach.

I took this near the start of the Kalalau trail at about 11am. The rainforest is really dense around the Northshore. We ended up hiking only a couple miles of the the trail because it was so muddy, and because we decided we'd rather go back and eat lunch. And drink more rum.

Those are taro fields in the background. I think this is around Hanalei Valley.

We stopped by the Kauai Coffee Plantations a bunch of times to do some sampling. We drank a lot of coffee.

Brittany took a nap before we went for a swim near Anini Beach.

Crazy man

Food is expensive on Kaua'i. Everything that isn't produced here has to get shipped in from at least half way across the ocean. Here's Brittany with what's left of her lunch.

Brittany wanted me to take a picture of this handsome rooster for her mother. Sorry Mary, we can't bring him home with us. Same goes for the baby goats for sale down the road. And the plants, and the trees. No rocks either. Sorry.

This is me, pre-coffee, mid-yawn. We've eaten breakfast at Kounry Kitchen twice now. Brittany is obsessed with their macadamia nut pancakes with coconut syrup. It's too bad we can't bring any of those home either.

Here's another picture of Brittany debating whether or not to eat something else she found on the beach. This picture was taken on our way back from Kountry Kitchen, right after we got done talking to a crazy man who was fishing for something. He asked if we wanted to go somewhere with him. We said no. Then he asked us what our state flower was. After I told him, he stared telling us all sorts of trivia about Washington state. He actually knew a lot of stuff. Then he tried to get us to go somewhere with him again. Then we ran away.

Sleeping Giant

Here's a picture of me right after we finished hiking four miles to the top of the mountain behind me: the Sleeping Giant. We walked right across his chest. We would have brought our camera to the top, but right after we arrived, two other groups of hikers showed up, and we wanted to stay ahead of them. It didn't quite work; we ran into an old man who had to tell us all about the trail. He broke it all down, by the quarter mile, explaining exactly where each quarter mile marker used to be. It wasn't very helpful. But he meant well.

Here's Brittany on the deck of our new room, with a delicious plate of food she prepared for us. It was very good. And we drank a lot of rum.

Then we crossed the Kapa'a river, and went searching for beach treasure for a while. Since Brittany had had a lot of rum, this is as deep as she was allowed to go.

She found some green coral (and almost stepped on it). That would have hurt. Tomorrow we are going to eat local Papaya, yogurt and granola for breakfast, body surf at Wailua and have dinner and rum in Old Town Koloa for our 1 and 2/3rd year anniversary! We miss our family and our wonderful kitty, A.D.Skinner, but we know that Brittany's brother, Jonathan, is having a nice time with him and making sure he stays out of serious trouble. Kaua'i

Here's a picture of me next to a weird looking tree. Pretty cool, right? For those of you who don't already know, Brittany and I are in Kaua'i. The weather is much nicer over here than it is in Tacoma. Surprised? Today is day three of our trip, and I'm starting to wake up. We're sitting in Starbucks right now, enjoying some exotic Hawaiian cuisine, getting ready to go on a hike.

Here's Brittany in the Kapa'a river. It runs right next to the condo where we're staying. This picture was taken right before she unsuccessfully attempted to chase down an entire family of chickens. They ran under a fence. Too bad. They probably would have been delicious.
